Connecting with the World via Knowledge Platform -

New in office in August, Director-General of CPAMI Chin-rong Lin is committed to turning Taiwan into the “Showcase of Biodiversity”, and, with his professional background of national land planning, to connect national parks in Taiwan with the world to promote them overseas.

After leaving the office of Director-General of Urban Planning Bureau in Kaohsiung City Government in June and a brief teaching at NCTU, Chin-rong Lin joins the cabinet in August. Though occupied with a tight schedule to acquaint himself with all units of Construction and Planning Agency, the new DG has full attention to the operation of national parks and soon becomes knowledgeable about this part that involves the most manpower.

Having served at Public Works and Urban Development Bureaus in Taipei, Hsinchu and Kaohsiung, DG Lin specializes in national land planning. When talking about the haracteristics of resources and development of the national parks belonging to the same national land planning system, he speaks of his visions in a manner of modesty. DG Lin thinks that from the protection and planning of national parks to the establishment of Dongsha Marine National Park and global warming are all challenging CPA to focus on issues of national land conservation, public education as well as the responsibility to the world.

He also expects CPA to continue to infuse more energy in research on ecological protection and landscape conservation, for “strengthening the resource conservation of national parks” is exactly a major task of his since his assuming the office.

Endowed with spectacular mountains and beautiful oceans, Taiwan has world-class national parks. Taiwan boasts a showcase of biodiversity, with about 150,000 species, representing 1.5% of the world’s total. In advancing the visibility of Taiwan’s national parks for people around the world to appreciate their natural beauty, Lin introduces of the action plan of knowledge platform.

He advances 3 concrete measures. Firstly, with the establishment of Dongsha Marine National Park, a series of international forums on national parks in Taiwan will be held to promote popularity; secondly, in-depth scientic research of biology will be initiated to attract foreign academia’s attention to the national parks in Taiwan; thirdly, deep-rooted education will be given to the young for them to know about the national parks and to experience the beauty of Taiwan.

The switch from UDB of Kaohsiung City to CPA maybe happens happen too soon, but Chin-rong Lin has already had a feasible plan for the national parks in Taiwan in less than half a month.
