Summer Lilies-

Summer Lilies

Summer Lilies

If the elegant azalea represents the spring overture for Yushan National Park, thenthe white Taiwanese lily must be the horns signaling the advent of summer.

From June until August in Taiwan lilies bloom. From the shores all the way up to3,300 meters high is the lilies’ domain. Summertime on Yushan is pleasant indeed—albeit chilly at times on account of the lazy breezes. The prairie alongside NanhengTianchi and the valley near Linzhi Mountain—the side facing the sun—is repletewith lilies in bloom, spreading across the mountaintop like a miniature militarycontingent standing at attention, playing a carefree melody. All of the surroundingflora arises and attentively listens, following the lilies’ lead and blossoming.

In the areas exposed to the sun, the Graciles scabra dons multiple outfits and seeksout the spotlight on stage. Upon feeling the sun it opens up; when clouds interveneand bath them in darkness, they gather themselves together and once more close uptightly.

When walking at medium to high altitudes on the trails, not only can one enjoy thedazzling array of lilies, but also a sea of green awaiting the insects’ inevitable arrival.

Thus, everyday upon sunrise, the flora begins its preparation for the big silent showit will display for its audience.
