Let’s Explore Yangmingshan and Collect Gems Along the Way: App Treasure Hunt Now Open

Find Clues and Complete Missions on this Adventurous Journey

In the post-pandemic era, hiking has become a popular outdoor activity. With the collaboration of various National Park headquarters, the hiking website “Hiking Biji” proposed the “Explore Yangmingshan” Treasure Hunt App project, hoping to provide a unique way of entertainment for people to get closer to nature. As a result, the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters has planned to renovate 16 hiking trails, divided into 18 missions, with a total of 74 ecological gems. Those interested can simply download the Hiking Biji app, enter “Explore Yangmingshan Treasure Hunt Mission” and select “Trails” to download the “Offline Mission” to start the challenge.

No need to worry about having no Internet on the mountains. As long as people download the app in advance and start the journey, they will be able to see the trail map, route tracks, and gem location. The activity will run from March 1 to November 20, 2023. Once people complete all 16 designated trails and find all 74 gems, they can apply for the full completion certificate online. The certificate can then be exchanged for a paper certificate and exclusive souvenirs at the Yangmingshan National Park Visitor Center.

Get Close to the Beauty of Nature With Your Whole Family

The treasure hunt routes are divided into the Cising Mountain, Datun Mountain, and Qingtiangang areas and the pedestrian separation system. Each mission selects a flora or fauna that can be found on the trail as an ecological gem, allowing everyone to learn about the local ecosystem while hiking.

According to the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters, since the launch of the app, people have checked out which trails they have walked and followed the track without worrying about getting lost. When passing by a gem location, the phone automatically captures it and accumulates the achievement, providing a sense of satisfaction when reaching the goal. If people don’t have enough stamina to complete a trail at once, they can also collect gems in stages, then store and upload the records of each time.

Promoting Hiking Safety, Recommended Apps for Mountain Climbing

The “Explore Yangmingshan” Treasure Hunt app not only allows people to learn about the geology, biodiversity, and cultural history of Yangmingshan but also aims to enhance the hiking knowledge and education of the public. By simply opening the offline map and location setting, even in an environment without Internet connection, people will know if they are on the correct mountain trail. We hope that hikers can make good use of digital technology, use offline maps for hiking, and make complete preparations before departure to prevent accidents, even in easily accessible mountains and forests!

Located at the northern edge of the Taipei basin, Yangmingshan National Park extends east to Huangtsui and Mt. Wuchih, west to Mt. Hsiangtien and Mt. Mientien, north to Mt. Chutzu and Tutikung Ridge, and south to Mt. Shamao. The park occupies an area of approximately 11,455 hectares and spans the administrative districts of Shihlin and Peitou in Taipei City and Tanshui, Sanchih, Shihmen, Chinshan and Wanli in Taipei County. The elevation of the park ranges from 200 meters to 1,120 meters.
