Roads closure due to the snow: Provincial Highway 14A: from 18 km Cuifeng to 41.5 km Dayuling and Provincial Highway 8: from 107 km to 110 km (Dayuling section)

Forwarded from the Central Region Maintenance Engineering Branch, Directorate General of Highways – Latest Update

According to the latest information from the Central Weather Administration, due to the impact of a strong continental cold air mass, nighttime temperatures on high-altitude sections above 3,000 meters on Provincial Highway 14A are expected to drop below 0°C, with a high likelihood of snowfall and icy road conditions.

To ensure the safety of road users and vehicles, a preventive road closure will be implemented starting at 5:00 PM today (Jan. 9) on the following sections:

Provincial Highway 14A: from 18 km Cuifeng to 41.5 km Dayuling

Provincial Highway 8: from 107 km to 110 km (Dayuling section)

During the closure, vehicles will be allowed to exit but not enter.

In addition, considering that the section between 31.7 km Wuling and 32.7 km Songxue Lodge on Provincial Highway 14A is steep, winding, and prone to skidding, this section will be fully closed in both directions, and all traffic will be prohibited.

At 7:00 AM tomorrow (Jan. 10), access will be reassessed based on weather and road conditions, and authorities will decide whether to allow passage only for vehicles equipped with snow chains or to fully reopen the road.

Road users are advised to check weather and road conditions in advance, carry snow chains in their vehicles, and drive cautiously at reduced speeds.

Reminder to road users:

Mountain weather conditions are severe and can change rapidly. Control sections and measures may be adjusted flexibly depending on on-site conditions. In accordance with the 2026 Hehuanshan (Mt. Hehuan) Snow Season Regulations, when snowfall or icy road conditions occur, Category A and B large passenger buses, trucks exceeding 3.5 tons (both large and small), and all types of motorcycles (including heavy motorcycles) are prohibited from entering the controlled sections.

Additionally, for Provincial Highway 8, Temporary Route No. 37 (Central Cross-Island Temporary Access Road), an additional nighttime passage at 5:30 PM has been arranged. This passage is limited to agricultural freight trucks transporting produce from the Greater Lishan area, traveling from Deji toward Guguan only.

Road users planning to travel on Provincial Highways 8 and 14A are strongly advised that mountain road conditions during the snow season are highly unpredictable. Please avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Before departure, ensure that personal gear and vehicle snow chains are fully prepared, closely monitor weather forecasts and traffic updates, and plan alternative itineraries in advance.
