Swallow Grotto Trail(Yanzikou) suffered a serious collapse in a recent earthquake, resulting in damage to the trail foundation and slopes, and rock falls have been frequent since. For the safety of visitors the national park headquarters has carried out slope scraping, reinforced the slope and filled in the road foundation.
The eastern section of the trail remains open and visitors can still enjoy views of the gorge by entering through the eastern entrance. The western end is closed to people and vehicles. It is expected that the western end of the trail will be open to walkers and traffic at the end of May.
As for Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail, after it recently suffered a large rock fall the national park headquarters has carried out slope scraping on the affected section and repaired the damaged railings. It is estimated that the trail will be opened again in mid May. Until then visitors can enter through the eastern entrance and should turn around at the first ventilation hole.
Visitors are asked to follow the signs on the trail and pay attention to safety at all times. While in Taroko Gorge please wear a hard hat, stay close to the cliff wall and always be alert and follow the signs.
