Spring Damsel Fish

Spring, wanders around the Coral Sea in Dongsha,

Often has the opportunity for the unexpected,

Hundreds come and go in groups, blue-green gills of Chromis Viridis.

The school of fish travel, refractions of light and shadow,

Fluctuating between dark green and light blue,

If threatened, they dodge into the seams of the coral branches,

Moving as one, people linger and observe.

Spring, the catalyst,

The males turn from green to yellow,

Back, chest, tail fins all fade to black,

The mouth, the tool that builds their home,

On the reef, male fish reflect the colors of marriage,

Defend the love nest, protecting it from strangers,

Showing their male confidence to the females,

Hope –capturing the heart.
