菜宅，澎湖先民的智慧

由於東北季風強盛，蔬果易受鹽霧與鹹雨影響，因此島民就地取材，築牆擋風，保住辛苦耕耘的成果．而這由居民擔挑一塊塊玄武岩或硓𥑮石所築壁為牆的農業地景就稱之為菜宅。

Caizhai is the traditional agriculture of the Penghu. People of the island piled up the rocks to construct walls in order to protect the crops from the strong northeast winds in winter. The materials they used were Laogu (coral rocks) and basalt.
